All Star Cheerleading Competitions
From LoveToKnow Cheerleading
Among the many competitions out there for cheerleading, All Star cheerleading competitions are some of the most competitive and highly viewed. When participating in an All Star competition, teams are competing with the best of the best in the sport.
Levels of All Star Cheerleading Competitions
As with any cheerleading competition, the All Star cheerleading competitions have different levels, and squads must work their way up through each progressive level.
Local Competition
Competing in a qualifyinf local competition is the first step on the road to All Star glory. To qualify for a higher competition, a squad or organization must place well at a lower level event. Local competition is a gauge to ensure only the best and most prepared squads go on to compete with different squads in a farther reaching area. The local area usually consists of the surrounding counties north, south, east and west.
Regional Competition
Placing first, second or even third at a local competition often allows a squad to move onto a higher competition level. At the regional level, a squad is typically competing with other squads from the same state where they reside. This is also known as a state competition or "States" for short.
National Competition
A squad has to place first or second to qualify for a national competition. This event level allows the squad to compete against the best in the nation. It is a great accomplishment to place at a national competition, let alone make it to one. This competition structure is also where bids are made for squads to proceed to the Worlds Competition.
Worlds Competition
Not every squad can make it to the Worlds Competition. This event is reserved strictly for those squads that have proven they are the most qualified. In order to get to the Worlds Competition, located in Orlando, a squad must receive a bid to attend. Bids are given to the squad with the highest score in a specific division.
How to Prepare For Success
Making it past the different levels of All Star cheerleading competitions takes a lot of work and dedication from each and every team member. Creating an unstoppable cheerleading squad does not happen overnight; it's built through team bonds, trust and skill.
Below are some important aspects your team must master to climb up the ladder to a championship:
- Know the fundamentals: Many squads go for the most difficult elements first and wonder why they are not successful. A good squad masters the less difficult aspects such as performing cheer motions and easy stunts cleanly before taking on more difficult stunts.
- Practice, and practice some more: The more a squad practices together, the better they work together. Practice allows teams to master their routine and smooth out the details; details are what make a good team great.
- Team bonding and spirit: Trust is earned, so spend time with team members and get to know them. Team building exercises are always a good place to begin. To be the best means the squad will have to be in synch down to the last move. Put this into practice even when warming up. Warm up as a group instead of individually or in pairs.
- Respect the coaches: The coaches are there to provide a leading role. When the coach steps on the mat, she automatically commands respect. The most successful teams respect and follow the instructions of their coach without question. It is easy to get wrapped up in the day’s events and lose focus. The coach is there to make sure the squad stays on track and is meeting the goals that were set.
- Participate in widely recognized competitions: Well known competitions offer a greater opportunity level. These opportunities consist of bids to higher competition levels, prizes and recognition.
These are just a few of the many ways a team can be successful and pull off an amazing routine that will warrant them a place in the cheerleading records. All Star competition is a continually evolving sport, and it's getting more challenging as time goes on. Keeping up on the competitions and what they can offer your team will ensure your team is on the right track.
