Awesome Pep Rally Planning

All great pep rallies begin with truly great planning and team work. No one can pull a pep rally off by themselves - it is a squad effort that will probably include faculty as well. Likewise, no one can pull off a pep rally at the last minute. Ideally, a squad will plan for pep rallies for their school year during summer practices. Doing this allows the squad to get special permission for special activities or events, as well as getting people on board with what you are doing. Remember that involvement is key and that the more people you have involved in someway or another, the more successful your pep rally will be.

Planning101

To plan for your big event, start by dividing your time in 5 minute increments. It's okay if things take longer than five minutes, but planning this way can help make sure you don't have any dead time.

For each five minute increment, list an activity, who is in charge, what materials are needed, and if you need special permission:

Remember, having a detailed plan not only helps your squad, but it will also have the faculty in charge be confident in your squad's abilities to plan and execute an excellent pep rally.

Awesome Pep Rally Ideas

So what makes a pep rally awesome? Often times it's the little things and the attention to details.

An Awesome Routine

A pep rally is the perfect time to pull out the routine that makes jaws drop. Whether it's a basket toss, super fantastic tumbling or a wolf wall with a spectacular dismount, use the pep rally to try out new moves and perfect your competition routines.

Everyone Loves Some Sweets

Candy is always appreciated. Try throwing it to the crowd during your hello cheer, or awarding candy to the loudest section in the gym. You can also be sneaky about it, and tape Starburst candies or something equally small underneath some of the bleacher seats. Some squads have even taken to taping candy bars with game tickets underneath the seats for some of the lucky attendees to find. However you do it, candy is sure to be a big hit.

Special Guests

Did you know that almost all professional teams have a community outreach arm? Whatever your local team is, be it a football team or a baseball team, give the community outreach office a call and most likely, you can get a team member to appear at your school. Consider pairing this appearance with an effort to collect cans for a soup kitchen or some similar charity outreach arm. This is one even that will take several months to plan - but is generally well worth the effort if you can pull it off!

Local Heroes

Another awesome pep rally idea is to have some of your local heroes, aka the fire or police department, to come and visit. Challenge your visitors to a duel of three legged basketball or something else. This helps them promote positive relationships with students, and it also shows students that they can be good sports.

Above all, remember to have fun with your pep rally! If you're not having fun, chances are good that no one else is either. The ultimate pep rally is the culmination of your good planning, efforts, and great squad talent!
