Cheerleading Hello Cheers

From LoveToKnow Cheerleading

Cheerleading hello cheers can be used in a variety of ways. They can be used to introduce the cheerleading squad, the team, or as a means of invigorating the crowd into cheering their hearts out. You can put intricate motions to your cheers or you can simply shout, clap and stomp your way to greeting your crowd!

Cheerleading Hello Cheers to Introduce Your Squad

Have you ever considered making up a hello cheer for each cheerleader on your squad? What about making an entire cheer built around the names of the cheerleaders on your squad? Think about the introductory cheers in the Bring It On movies. While you can't get away with anything vulgar, a fun, sassy cheer might be great for a camp atmosphere. Try coming up with a rhythm or beat, and then challenge the girls to come up with a part of the cheer for their name. Or as a team building exercise, have each girl come up with a cheer for someone else. Here is an example.

A Hello Cheer for Introducing Cheerleaders

We got it goin' on
And so we sing this song
We're kickin' it for you
And this is how we do

Clap seven times in rapid succession

My name is Brittany, (clap-clap)
I am in charge, (clap-clap)
And when I cheer, (clap-clap)
I'm livin' large! (clap-clap)

While the cheerleader is introducing herself, the rest of the squad can clap or stomp or in some other way keep the beat until the whole squad is done. Another fun variation to help keep it funky and fun is to have each girl make up her own rhythm by stomping, clapping or slapping her thighs.

Hello Cheers for Introducing Players

The best way to use a hello cheer for introducing players is to have one cheerleader use a megaphone or loudspeaker to announce the players names and stats. You definitely don't want to perform a hello cheer every time the players play; that would take too long and would bore the crowd. However, making up "hello cheers" for the seniors on the team to introduce them for the big homecoming game or introducing positions with a hello cheer can really incite the crowd to cheer extra loud.

Saying Hello to a Player for the Big Game

Try this cute cheer for getting the crowd into cheering for their team by name:

Taylor (player's name), Taylor
He's the best
As the center
He's ahead of all the rest

Smith (player's name), Smith
The crowd goes wild when he does his thing
He shoots. . .he scores . .from the three point ring

Jones (player's name) Jones
He's known all around
'Cuz when he comes for the ball
You know he's gonna get that rebound

Getting the Crowd a Little Rowdy

For a player, a "good game" is defined by winning or losing, getting the most points, scoring or defending well. For a cheerleader, a "good game" is defined by hearing the crowd roar, whether the team wins or loses. Getting the crowd involved with some "hello cheer tactics" can definitely set the tone for the game.

Using Class Cheers

Try pitting class against class at the beginning of a bigger game. If your squad is large, send some cheerleaders into each section of the bleachers to work on a class cheer with the crowd. Some of the cheerleaders need to stay in the front to make sure things are moving. Challenge each class to come up with the loudest and most creative hello cheer to introduce their class and what they're all about. To up the ante just a tad, throw candy at the section that is the loudest during the game.

Hello Cheers the Crowd Knows

One of the best ways to get the crowd involved is to perform a cheer consistently for every game so that the crowd knows the cheer. Instead of introducing players or your squad, try wishing the team good luck in the same way each time. A crowd that knows the words tends to yell along, and before you know it, the entire gym is chanting!

Setting the Tone for the Game

Remember that your cheerleading hello cheers set the tone for the entire game. While it's okay to have a little sass, as representatives of the school, you want to promote good sportsmanship whenever possible. Focus on your team and their strengths, and that will help focus the crowds' cheering efforts!
