Cheers for Basketball Cheerleaders

If your school has basketball cheerleaders, chances are good that you're looking for separate cheers for basketball cheerleaders. Many larger high schools choose the option of having separate squads for football and basketball so that more girls get a chance to be on the squad or that cheerleaders can also participate in other sports. Even if your school doesn't have a separate cheerleading squad for basketball season, it's likely that you'll want to change your routines and cheers between football and basketball season so that you're always giving your fans something new.

Creating Your Own Cheers

It's difficult to always come up with something fresh and exciting. Try these great ideas to get started:

• Rhyme! Cheers don't have to rhyme, but they can. If you're struggling, rhyming is one way to make it easier.

• Spell out a word, and then build the cheer around that. Letters are easier to rhyme with than some words.

• Work a cheer around each type of play or each position. In basketball, that could include three point shots, rebounds, lay ups, offense, defense, dribbling, etc.

End cheer with a group toe touch jump or group herkie jump! Crowds love it when the cheerleading squad does "tricks" in unison.
