Where Can I Find Cheerleading Uniforms

From LoveToKnow Cheerleading

One of the first questions to occur to any new cheerleading coach is "Where can I find cheerleading uniforms?" Even if the school has an established look and current uniforms, keeping them fresh and modern improves the appearance of any squad. Making the right choice is not as hard as you might think.

Where Can I Find Cheerleading Uniforms

"Where Can I Find Cheerleading Uniforms?" The Web!

The best way to find a source for cheerleading uniforms would be to use Google or some other search engine to discover several different cheerleading uniform vendors so you can do a side-by-side comparison. Typing in cheerleading uniforms yields many results such as the major vendor Cheerdeals. This friendly, colorful site makes it easy to purchase both in-stock and custom cheerleading uniforms, bags, shoes and other accessories.

However, even this may seem a bit confusing. There are many, many choices, not just in colors and styles but in combinations. The basic uniform consists of four basic parts:

  • Shell – This is usually in the team colors, with some accents like stripes, stars, and possibly the team logo and name on it
  • Skirt – The skirt is usually a solid color, with a minor accent stripe or highlight. Some teams prefer to use shorts instead of the traditional skirt and bloomers.
  • Bloomers/Spankies - These are the colored "underwear" that girls wear under their skirts so that as they are kicking and tumbling, you cannot see their real underwear.
  • Top undershirt - These are usually turtlenecks that go under the shell during colder weather.

Getting these four items for each cheerleader can often run less than $100.00 each, especially if bought in bulk. Online retailers will almost always give a better deal than a sporting goods store. However, schools with ongoing cheer squads may have a special deal with a specific vendor. If your squad doesn't already have a deal going with a specific vendor, consider trying to make one. Advertising in exchange for a discount from a local supplier may be well worth your while. While custom uniforms do look better, having stock uniforms improves the ability of the vendor to supply replacement uniforms quickly as needed by the squad.

Shoes From "Real" Space

Keep in mind shoes are also needed, and not just any sneaker – special shoes used to give strong traction for sideline cheers as well as support for flyers and bases. Zaephz and Kaepa are two popular and reputable brands.

However, shoes are less forgiving in terms of fit than uniforms. It is a good idea to try them on in a sporting goods store before ordering online – at the very least to make sure you order the exact right size. Again, local shoe stores may be willing to cut a deal with a school or squad if they know that they are purchasing in bulk. Most stores that supply athletic shoes include cheerleading shoes in their stock.

Squads often have the cheerleaders themselves purchase the shoes simply because, unlike the uniforms, they can rarely be re-used by other cheerleaders. This isn't to say that, in the best of all possible worlds, the cheerleader shouldn't be able to keep her uniform even after high school. However, shrinking school budgets often make that unrealistic.

Accessories

Vendors such as Team Cheer and Elite Uniform also supply cheer accessories such as hair ribbons, [[Pom Poms|poms], full warm up gear and more. The advantage to using the same vendor for accessories and uniforms is that they will be able to match colors and accents exactly. The disadvantage, of course, is that it is possible that they will charge you more for the accessories than you might pay elsewhere, or you might pay for something that you could easily make yourself (such as hair ribbons). However, most vendors will make the accessories durable for the kind of active treatment cheerleaders give them.

When Where can I find cheerleading uniforms? runs through your head, remember that it's one of the easier parts of running a squad, and take the time to get the perfect look for your cheerleaders.
